The Housing Counseling Certification provides counselors with a holistic perspective on the many types of housing concerns that clients may face. This combination of courses prepares counselors to use their knowledge to assist clients in a variety of housing situations, including pre-purchase and foreclosure. Additionally, depending on the courses selected, counselors receive training on how to work with clients seeking to secure rental housing, assist victims of natural disaster, or help those in need of temporary housing.

Course Requirements
Applicants must attend the following UnidosUS Learning Alliance (ULA) courses:
- Hybrid+ Fundamentals of Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Counseling
- Predatory Lending Webinar
- eLearning HCC: Fair Housing or any foreclosure prevention course
Exam Requirements
Applicants must pass the following exams with a score of 80% or higher:
- ULA Hybrid+ Fundamentals of Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Counseling
Practical Experience Requirements
Applicants must have counseled at least 30 individuals within the last 12 months, or must have been employed by a HUD-certified housing counseling agency for the last six months.
Submission Requirements
In order to submit the Housing Counseling Certification Application, applicants will need the following documents:
- A letter signed by both the applicant and their manager or executive director certifying that the practical experience requirements have been met. An example letter can be found here.
- The National Industry Code of Ethics and Conduct for Homeownership Professionals form, signed by the applicant
- Hybrid+ Fundamentals of Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Counseling certificate of completion
- Webinar certificate of completion
- One of the following certificates of completion:
- eLearning HCC: Fair Housing or any foreclosure prevention course
Once the application is complete, click “submit” at the end of the screen. Your application will be reviewed, and notification regarding your certification status will be sent soon thereafter.
