The Homeownership Education Certification provides hands-on practical strategies that assists housing counseling professionals with creating a successful homebuyer education program, marketing that program to potential clients and leveraging relationships with vendors inclusive of financial support of the workshop. Creating and implementing a homebuyer education program requires an understanding of the homebuying process from A to Z, good public speaking skills and excellent relationship building. This certification will provide foundational information necessary for the student to be able to conduct an engaging, information-packed workshop that aligns with HUD reporting standards.

Course Requirements
Applicants must attend the following ULA courses:
- Hybrid+ Implementing and Growing Your Homebuyer Education Program
- Predatory Lending Webinar
- eLearning HCC: Fair Housing
- One of the following course must of been completed within the past 36 months:
- Hybrid+ Fundamentals of Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Counseling
- eLearning Foundations of Pre-Purchase
Exam Requirements
Applicants must pass the following exams with a score of 80% or higher:
- Hybrid+ Implementing and Growing Your Homebuyer Education Program
- Hybrid+ Fundamentals of Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Counseling or eLearning Foundations of Pre-Purchase
Practical Experience Requirements
Applicants must have counseled at least 30 individuals within the last 12 months, or must have been employed by a HUD-certified housing counseling agency for the last six months.
Submission Requirements
In order to submit the Homeownership Education Certification Application, applicants will need the following documents:
- A letter signed by both the applicant and their manager or executive director certifying that the practical experience requirements have been met. An example letter can be found here.
- The National Industry Code of Ethics and Conduct for Homeownership Professionals form, signed by the applicant
- Hybrid+ Implementing and Growing Your Homebuyer Education Program certificate of completion
- Predatory Lending Webinar certificate of completion
- eLearning HCC: Fair Housing certificate of completion
- One of the following certificates of completion:
- Hybrid+ Fundamentals of Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Counseling
- eLearning Foundations of Pre-Purchase
Once the application is complete, click “submit” at the end of the screen. Your application will be reviewed, and notification regarding your certification status will be sent soon thereafter.
